I just spent a few days immersing myself in a Somatic Integration and Processing Training. I really loved it, and one of the ideas that kept my brain kept circling back to was how often we accidentally leave our bodies out of the “mental health” conversation.
It doesn’t work when we just try to re-train the brain and re-write our thoughts and we leave our bodily felt sense out of the equation.
In my office, we will include MORE than just your thoughts and even more than your feelings. We will work to include your bodily felt experience of what has happened to you in the past as we work through it in the present. This is important to me, and I certainly hope you feel safe enough to bring it up in session.
With some of my clients, we’ll even get up in the middle of reprocessing, and stomp around the room a bit, or we’ll do some high kicks together, or we will actually literally “shake it off” by shrugging the shoulders up and down and wiggling our bodies around. Every time we include the body, I see movement and growth happen for my clients. We can’t isolate our experiences to only what happens in our brains if we want full-body healing to take place.
You are welcome to participate in the healing journey- all parts of you. I feel full of hope for you that you can heal and feel differently.
Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions.
